What is the use of mouth guards?
Tooth fractures and mouth injuries are observed in athletes who do sports with a lot of contact, especially basketball, football and wrestling, due to impact of sports equipment or trauma by falling down. In these cases, mouth protectors prevent damage to hard tissues and soft tissues, such as the tongue, the gums, and the lips.
Mouth guards are made of a plastic-like soft material placed on the upper and lower gums. They prevent the upper and lower teeth from violently hitting each other as a result of trauma. They serve as pillows in between and thus protect the soft tissues and teeth in the mouth.
